My question is. If any one of the big 3 auto producers has a decent business model, why are they going to the government for money? Isn’t there an investor in the world who would love to invest in this industry if it is so great.
My answer is they have a horrible business model. That is why they are begging congress instead of independent investors. They are bound by horrible business practices and commitments as well as being larger than they are able to handle. Just like the airline industry did, the auto industry needs to cut back. Yes people will lose their jobs and that is horrible. Americans are resilient and will pull through.
We are looking at troubling times ahead and to put a band-aid on a severed artery will only limit the spurting but do nothing to stop the bleeding. We are America. We have been through tough times. The sooner we fix this and take our punches the sooner we’ll be back on our feet stronger than ever.
Just remember we are here because God has given us this land. If we continue to look to Him for guidance and mercy He will bless us. We have forgotten Him and need to return to our roots and remember it was to God that our founding father looked for guidance in establishing a free democracy.

"spurting"? Yuck. :) I agree with you, though. If the Big Three are not bailed out and they dissolve, then so be it. Sometimes people are stronger because of the difficulties and tragedies they have to endure. It's great if we can convince a baby not to touch a hot stove, because that way she won't feel the pain. But if she touches the hot stove, just as well: she'll have learned a tremendous lesson and she will never do it again; she'll have become a stronger and wise person because of it. People must suffer the consequences of their own actions, good or bad. Think about how weak of a nation America would be if everyone was constantly bailed out of their hard times.
